THIS JUST IN… May 15-19, 2017 

It will be a night of music in the museum when the McKee Middle Choir presents “A Spring Concert.” The performance will be 6:30 p.m. Monday, May 15, at the Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts on the grounds of Blount Cultural Park. The choir will perform all concert and festival pieces plus popular songs such as “7 Years,” “Man in the Mirror” and “Rhythm Is Gonna Get You.” Tickets are $3 in advance and $5 at the door and can be purchased from any sixth-,seventh- or eighth-grade choir members.

Sidney Lanier High will take on the topic of bullying with a Parent Meeting at 6 p.m. Wednesday in the auditorium. The special guests will be Police Chief Ernest Finley and Lt. Willie Holmes of MPD Special Operations. The Lanier Poet Nation PTSA will also elect officers for the 2017-2018 school year during the meeting. A parents appreciation reception will follow, featuring door prizes.

Booker T. Washington Magnet High piano student Ti-Ara Turner was virtuosic in the NAACP’s Academic, Cultural, Technological and Scientific Olympics (ACT-SO) held recently in Montgomery. She scored a 98.3 for her performance of Chopin’s “Fantasie-Impromptu.” She will go on to compete in the national ACT-SO competition in Baltimore in July.

Garrett Elementary will hold its Mother’s Day Lunch for Pre-K, first and fifth grades.

Tuesday, May 16

Bear Exploration Center fifth-graders will perform their play titled “ThatsEntertainment.com” for their parents, friends and family members.

Garrett Elementary will hold its Mother’s Day Lunch for kindergarten, second and fourth grades.

Wednesday, May 17

Bear Exploration Center fifth-graders will perform their play titled “ThatsEntertainment.com” for the kindergarten through fourth-grade students at the school.

Bear Exploration Center third-graders will explore DeSoto Caverns on a field trip.

Thursday, May 18

Chisholm Elementary students will participate in a talent show in the cafeteria from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.

Garrett Elementary will hold its Kindergarten Exit Program at 9 a.m.

Bear Exploration Center fifth-graders will have an end-of-the-year celebration at Oak Park. This fun-filled event is sponsored by the PTA.

Friday, May 19

McKee Pre-K will hold its Year End Celebration in the Lunchroom at 9:15 a.m.

Bear Exploration Center fifth-graders will go on a field trip to Atlanta. They will tour the Georgia Aquarium and CNN studios and the World of Coke, stopping for lunch in the CNN studios food court.
