THIS JUST IN… May 1-5, 2017

It’s Teacher Appreciation Week, celebrating the profession that makes all other professions possible. Schools throughout the district will salute their teachers this week. The activities planned at Brewbaker Middle are listed below.

Congratulations to Sidney Lanier High and Montgomery Preparatory Academy for Career Technologies Fire Science graduate Jalen Shelby. He won the Leadership Award during the Montgomery Fire and Rescue Training Academy graduation. The award is presented to the top overall recruit in each trainee class. Shelby is the first MPACT Fire Science student to graduate from the Fire Department’s Training Academy. He said afterward that his MPACT training gave him a decided advantage over other recruits. In fact, he said that besides the tests of physical endurance, everything he studied in the academy had been covered in his time at MPACT.

The Title I Office of Parent and Family Engagement will present a Parent of the Year and Community Partner of the Year Program. The program will recognize one parent and one community partner from each Title I school. The program will be 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 2, at True Divine Baptist Church, 4525 Virginia Loop Road.

Monday, May 1

The Brewbaker Middle PTSA will show its appreciation for teachers by treating them to beverages from 7 to 7:45 a.m. This is in return for the teachers “keeping the students’ creative juices flowing.”

Bear Exploration Center fifth-grade students will take a trip to Riverwalk Stadium to watch the Montgomery Biscuits baseball game.

Tuesday, May 2

Brewbaker Middle support staff will treat teachers to snacks to salute their knack for teaching. The snack cart will be on each hall during planning periods.

Wednesday, May 3

Bear Exploration Center third-graders are in for fun and excitement as they attend Butter and Egg Adventures in Troy, where they will conduct problem-solving and team building activities, zip lining, pedal boating, fishing, wall climbing and doing a fun ropes course.

Brewbaker Middle Assistant Principal Michael Gibbs will give teachers candy bags. Playing off of two popular brands of candy, the message is, “Your teaching is nothing to ‘Snicker’ about, and that has made 2016-2017 a ‘Jolly’ school year.”

Thursday, May 4

The Brewbaker Middle PTSA and Principal Cameron Whitlow will thank teachers for not “flying the coop” with a fried chicken luncheon during lunch periods.

Friday, May 5

Goodwyn Middle will hold a father/daughter dance and luncheon from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Brewbaker Middle teachers will receive a cheesy treat to celebrate their “egg”-cellent teaching.

Bear Exploration Center fifth-grade students will put their mastery of the scientific method to the test in the Science Fair. Judges will be present to determine the winners.
